New Metal Roof Installation Training Certification Program Launches at METALCON

The metal construction industry’s largest international event for metal construction products, technologies and solutions, together with the Metal Construction Association (MCA), announce its new Metal Roof Installation Training at METALCON 2016, scheduled for October 26-28 at the Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore.

Top experts in the metal roofing industry will lead this two-day, eight-hour certification program based on MCA’s recently published Metal Roof Installation Manual.

Participants can experience quality face-time with industry experts and hands-on training in topics including: substrates, safety, sealants, flashings, panel types and connections, tools, fasteners, maintenance and more.  Part of the course offering includes hall entry for all three days and access to the full conference program at METALCON.  The objective is to couple the training program with the opportunity to visit the exhibit floor where participants can see live demonstrations of what they have just learned, while networking with industry experts.

“Many metal roof manufacturers have their own in-house training programs for installers and contractors to become familiar with specific profiled panels, trim, clips and ancillaries,” said Scott Kriner, MCA Technical Director.  “Now with this new Metal Roof Installation Training program, these manufacturers will have access to a pool of qualified individuals trained in key topics related to metal roof installation.  Therefore, their installers and contractors will be prepared to hit the ground running with a basic knowledge gained through the certification program at METALCON.  As a result, manufacturers will be able to create more efficient and tailored in-house training programs.”“For those outside the metal roofing industry, this certification program offers a great opportunity to learn about the industry and experience practical, hands-on training in the topics most roof installers are required to know,” said Kriner.

Upon successful completion of the training program, a qualified individual will be presented with MCA’s Metal Roofing Certificate of Completion.  As an added bonus, opportunities to learn from specific exhibitors will be available on the exhibit floor.

“Learning truly comes to life with MCA’S Metal Roof Installation Training taught live by top industry experts, followed by the experience of the show room floor where participants can touch, see and feel what they’ve just learned, and also network with industry experts,” said Claire Kilcoyne, METALCON Show Director.

The certification program takes place in two phases on Tuesday, Oct 25 and Wednesday, Oct 26.  For more details, please visit www.metalcon.com or call 800.537.7765

Facebook Marketing Tips for Contractors

Still think Facebook is where your kids share videos and like each other’s photos?  Think again.  Facebook is a major player in the marketing world, and the fastest growing audience is much older than you may think.  Consider these stats:

Facebook Users

These numbers show that Facebook is a great place to reach metal roofing’s target market of homeowners.  That’s why you’ll find that the Metal Roofing Alliance has a Facebook Fan Page, as do many of our manufacturer members.  You can find the MRA page here.

Facebook Marketing 101

Ready to get started marketing with Facebook?  Here are a few tips:

  1. Create a Facebook Fan Page for your business.  You’ll need a personal Facebook account if you don’t already have one.  There is no cost for setting up the page.  Facebook does offer advertising options and tools to promote your page (more on that later); however, the basic fan page is free.

  2. Add photos and other content to your page that will appeal to your local audience.  Examples include: photos of recently completed projects, testimonials and homeowner tips.
  3. Like the MRA Facebook page, and share our consumer-friendly content on your page. Here’s an example of a recent post we created for Earth Day that you can easily share.

  4. Invite your customers to like your Facebook page.  Include the link to your page on every email you send, on your business card and in your brochures.  Every like your Facebook page receives is another person who you can communicate with on a regular basis.
  5. Post regular updates to your page – start with once or twice a week and build your frequency.  Be careful not to go overboard – too many posts, and your page will become annoying to your followers.

As mentioned above, Facebook does offer advertising opportunities for your page.  They can be quite affordable, and can be very targeted to your local market.  We’ll cover that in an upcoming post on the Metal Roofing Industry blog, so be sure to check back here.

The Metal Roofing Alliance offers many marketing and sales tools for our contractor members.  To learn more about joining the MRA, please contact our Contractor Liaison, Bill Hippard Jr. at  billhippardjr@metalroofing.com .

Earth Day Tools for Metal Roofing Contractors

Earth Day is a great opportunity for contractors to remind consumers about the many eco-benefits of metal roofing.   The Metal Roofing Alliance has developed a new consumer-friendly blog post and graphic that contractors are encouraged to use to make the most of this well-known annual celebration.

Free Roofing Book Available for Use by MRA Contractors

In our ongoing effort to promote residential metal roofing, the Metal Roofing Alliance has just released a new home improvement book titled “Above All You Need a Great Roof.”

Metal Roofing Book

Written by construction industry experts Jim Cory and Dave Yoho, the book is designed as a homeowner’s guide to choosing a new roof.  Written in a consumer-friendly format, this new book walks a homeowner through the entire process of replacing their roof, including identifying the need for a roof, choosing a quality installer, and general comparisons of various roofing systems.

As a project sponsored by the Metal Roofing Alliance, of course, metal roofing is highlighted throughout the book, including discussion of the investment grade benefits of a metal roof.  Although designed to help homeowners to understand the value of metal roofing, the book also has terrific potential for contractors.

Contractor members of the Metal Roofing Alliance can download a free electronic PDF version of the book through their online member dashboard for use in local marketing efforts.  Once downloaded, the PDF can be used on a contractor’s business website to generate leads or sent to potential customers via email.   MRA members can also purchase discounted printed copies of the book to distribute.

For more information, or advice on using the PDF or printed book, please contact MRA’s contractor relations team at (314)399-1951.
